BORN FOR THE STORM
Some years ago, while having a family vacation on the coast of Oregon, I stood watching the Coast Guard train for rough weather. The purpose of the training was to prepare the young recruits for rescue in times of storms. The small craft they were on went into the most turbulent part of the channel, where the greatest danger was repeatedly practicing their skills preparing for the storm.
My family and I stood on dry ground on a sunny day, enjoying our vacation. But out on the water was a crew of men preparing to rescue someone who was in the storm and needed their help.
Among the many attributes of our heavenly father is what he perhaps does best, that is preparation ahead of time. The most significant evidence is that Jesus was sacrificed before the world was even formed. Long before you and I had any storms in our lives, Christ had already made a way for us to go through them to Victory.
Before we even knew there was a devil, he had already been defeated at the cross and the resurrection.
Before sickness had ever invaded our home, it had already been dealt with by the stripes upon Christ's back.
When our heavenly father declared in the first verses of the Bible that we would be made in his image, we had guaranteed inheritance.
Jesus declared that in this life, you would have trouble and persecution, then he added to be aware that I am with you and will never leave you. That was our guarantee that we were born for the storm.
Storms come and go in our lives, but because we are created in his image and have the power and blessing of the cross and resurrection, there is no storm that can take us out.
We are not storm chasers; we are storm overcomers.
When the scriptures declare that we are more than conquerors through Christ who loved us, you can bank on it.

SLEEP ON IT- YOU'LL FEEL BETTER IN THE MORNING
My mother's wisdom continues to follow me to this day. How often did I hear those words? Son, go to bed and sleep on it; you'll feel better in the morning. I suppose in those days; I related that suggestion more to the natural healing of the body than I did to spiritual encounters. But as I matured in the Lord, I realized that her instructions for me to go to bed were an invitation for God to speak to me and give me his wisdom in the decisions I had to make.
There is a term in the King James Bible called "visions of the night," which most of us would relate to as dreams. In these visions of the night, according to genesis 46:2, Israel had his instructions from the father that directed his life and established the Jewish family.
The book of Job 4:13 and 33:15 reveals that mysteries are unfolded to those that go into the deep sleep of the night where they are given instructions from the angel of the Lord.
Paul the apostle, in acts 16:19 and 18:9, was directed by the Lord for his next assignment in a vision of the night.
These are biblical examples of what it means to sleep on it so that the heavenly father can speak to your spirit without interference or argument from the mind.
It's somewhat like God putting Adam to sleep when he created Eve so that Adam wouldn't interfere with the plan God had in mind. If Adam had been awake, eve might have looked much different.
So it is with you and me as God leads and teaches us. When we lay our head on the pillow at night, our body and soul rest, but our spirit is wide awake and listening for the father's voice.
In those night visions, great things are accomplished, and history is shaped and changed.
So I encourage you to find a pillow and a quiet corner, take a break from the routine and sleep on it.

THE NEVER NEVER LAND SYNDROME
The classic story of Peter Pan, the lost boys, and Never-Neverland is a reflection of people you and I know; that never want to grow up and face the challenge and responsibility of adulthood.
In never never land, there were no clocks to remind them of the passing of time; there was no responsibility of going to work and paying the bills; it was the perfect setting for boys in their adolescence.
However, notice the subtle message that came through Captain Hook and the crocodile. The principle of pressure from the trouble that comes our way forces us to grow up and face real life. The lost boys had to learn how to defend themselves and organize around a leader that would champion their cause.
In real life and our spiritual life, far too many live in never-never land; the Bible calls it Babyland.
You see them in all sizes and shapes and ages coming and going out of our churches with not a spiritual care on Earth because they have put all responsibility on some spiritual leader in their life.
No worries, they say I'll send my request to the prayer tower in Tulsa.
Oh, I don't have to know the word of God. I'll just go and sit on Sunday morning and listen to the pastor; after all, he has time to study.
Never never land, folks.
Then here comes old Captain Hook and the crocodile reminding us that if we don't grow up and learn how to defend and conquer, we will not accomplish the purposes of God in our life. God doesn't have to invent trouble; it comes on its own. However, like any good martial arts expert, God uses the momentum of the trouble to strengthen your muscle and teach you how to fight.
Take your spiritual position in your home, your church, and your world, and make a difference. God put you in that position to change the course of history.
Like they say in our Northwest country, a dead salmon can float down the river; it takes a live one to swim up.

LET'S TALK GOD TALK
One of the first things I had to learn when traveling Internationally was to pick up and understand the idioms of the people I was speaking to. I love to inject humor into my speaking; it relaxes people and lets them know you're a natural person. One of our great charismatic speakers, Bob Mumford, said, "if you can get people smiling, then when you hit them in the mouth, you won't split their lip." Of course, that was a symbolic statement, hopefully.
I discovered that the illustrations I love to use in America didn't fit in most other nations because of our background and how we understand life and relate to it. How do you tell a baseball story or an illustration of riding in your automobile in the middle of Africa where the villager you are in has never seen either one?
So it is when we enter the Kingdom of God and the world of the spirit. Some may call it Bible talk; I called it God talk. If you've paid attention to your history in America, much of our language comes from the Bible, especially our laws. Over the years, pop culture has affected us to where most people don't use biblical terms or words anymore.
However, if you're going to venture into the world of the spirit, you need to pick up the language of the spirit. Unfortunately, there is no manual for God talk; you must cultivate a face-to-face relationship with him to learn his language.
Why is that?
We are like snowflakes; we are individually shaped and have communication skills that God has placed in us because our DNA has its language.
When you tune in to the father by fellowship and meditation, you will find that your language will match his language, and you will have a harmony of sight, sound, and love that will set your life on a course of perfect destiny.
Let's learn the language of heaven and talk to her father continually.

SORROW FOR JOY: BEST TRADE EVER
I don't remember much of what I learned in the fifth grade, but I do remember Mr. Haley, soccer, baseball cards, and marbles.
Mr. Haley was a slight man with a balding head and a strange personality.
Soccer was conducted on the playfield after lunch every day.
Baseball cards were carried in my hip pocket to be used for serious trading.
And marbles, well, marbles were always available for a quick game when we could find some dirt and someone to play with.
I did a lot of trading that year; my favorite baseball card for one I wanted from someone else. If we wanted it bad enough, we would trade two or three cards for one. Whatever it took to make the deal when we had to have that special card.
Well, those days are long gone; most of those cars are lost or buried in my stuff somewhere.
When I first opened my heart and life to Jesus, I had no idea what he had traded so that I could have the joy of salvation. I knew the preacher said that what I got was free and all I had to do was receive it, not realizing the price Jesus paid for my freedom.
It was the trade of the ages far beyond anything we can comprehend or appreciate except through the power of the Holy Spirit. And the only way we can continue to release any appreciation is by continually praising his name and loving his presence.
I traded my sorrows for joy, my sins for salvation, and my death for life, all because of the work that Jesus accomplished on the cross and resurrection.

THE VOICE OF GOD WITHIN YOU.
In my journeys with the body of Christ, I have discovered that fear of deception overwhelms a significant portion of them. They believe that the power of deception is far greater than the power of revelatory truth.
Because of this fear, the development of the kingdom of God has been dwarfed, and the maturity that God intended for us to be has been hindered.
It has not been unusual to hear someone tell Pastor I never heard that before; how could that be true my mother never believed that way.
Somehow the church and the revelation of scripture have been frozen in time. The theologians and teachers at our seminaries and our puppets are still quoting concordance, written 500 years ago. As if God spoke one time and then has been silent since.
We have been identified so long as "sinners saved by grace" that when someone calls us a saint, we reject it as a fallacy.
If we expect to advance into the image of Christ, we must change our conversation or identity and our voice. Second Corinthians 520 tells us that the voice of God is within us. We have been commissioned to call the world back to the father and to announce their redemption from sin.
Remember this as you prepare for your future success.
Your body is the temple of God; that's where he lives.
Sin no longer has dominion over you; it has been dealt with at the cross.
You now live in eternal life; you will never die. ( your body may lay down someday)
You are now ruling and reigning with Christ in heavenly places seated at the father's right hand.
Too many theologians are like our modern politicians, constantly kicking the can down the road. Everything God did for us on the cross and resurrection continues to be put off to some fairytale land in some distant time beyond our imagination. In the never-never land of rapture and heavenly bliss.
What do you think the scripture means, "now is the day of salvation?"
Salvation is more than just explaining the time you receive Jesus; it is everything that was given to you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We don't wait for death or the second coming of Christ to be forgiven for sins, do we? Of course not? Why should we expect death to be the key that gives us everything Christ did for us at the cross and resurrection?
It's time for the body of Christ to release the voice of God that we have within and declare the whole council of his divine plan, and that is, he came to free the entire world from sin.
That's the message of righteousness.

The man in the middle.
Let me open up our time together by asking you a couple of questions.
Question number one why did Jesus come to earth?
Question number two what was the result of Jesus and his sacrifice on the cross?
Question number three what did that sacrifice do for us, and what are we to do with that?
I have found out that I often learn more by someone asking me a question. Questions will stimulate a part of our memory that we don't visit very often.
But most importantly, it allows the Holy Spirit to teach us by revelations. Remember, Jesus said that one of the primary functions of the Holy Spirit is to bring things to our memory that he has taught.
Those of us believers know that Jesus came to earth to return the human race to the father where their original home began.
Sacrifice on the cross sealed the deal. Jesus became the final sacrifice in a long series of lambs that were slaying; he was the one that made it work.
Because of his sacrifice on the cross, we now have access to the father through his name. He told us that after the Holy Ghost came, we could ask largely in the name of Jesus, and the father would respond.
But of course, that's not the end of the story; what are we to do now that we have been redeemed?
A considerable slice of the modern church is sitting around waiting for the rapture bus so they can go to heaven and have peace and safety and long life.
However, if we remember, one of the essential things that took place was that Jesus became the firstborn of many sons.
Scriptures tell us in first John, "as Jesus is, so are we on this earth."
He also told us that we could go out and do great exploits because we have been made in his image, which enabled us to do what he did.
Jesus was the man in the middle.
If we have been made in his likeness, you and I are the people in the middle.
We stand between heaven and earth and have been commissioned to bring men and women back to the father just like Jesus did. We have been authorized to be intercessors and ambassadors, and advocates so that others hear the message that the sacrifice of Jesus has redeemed them.
Be that person in the middle this week for someone.
Be that one that throws out the lifeline and rescues that misinformed person who has not heard the report that they have already been forgiven, come home.

You will go where you're looking.
This year I celebrate over six decades of active ministry. And in those years of walking with the Lord, I have worked in various positions of service. You might say I have worked myself up from the mail room to the chief executive.
In the church world, we would say I cleaned toilets and swept the floor, and also served as senior pastor. In quite a few of those years, I did both simultaneously.
Among the duties, I had the privilege of counseling people about their lives and the future they wanted to see God help them. I've experienced everything from the sublime to the ridiculous; and from the joyous to the sorrowful.
A question I often heard was, "Pastor, how did I get here?" Most of them had no clue as to why their life was in such turmoil. When I spent time with them, I found that they were precisely in the place they had their eyes on.
Why?
Because of the biblical principle, you will go in the direction you're looking. And you will become what your eyes are gazing on.
In the book of Hebrews, the 12th chapter and the second verse tells us that we are to look at Jesus.
When sick people often came to Jesus to be healed, he would tell them to look on him. That sounds like such a curious thing to ask someone if there must be a reason.
Think about it. When they came to Jesus, they knew he was a healer because of his reputation in the city. When they looked at him, they took their attention off their sickness and fashioned it on the answer; Jesus.
Because of the law of God and nature, you will always go in the direction you're looking.
"Looking onto Jesus, the author, and finisher of our faith."

Living from the past, not in the past.
In the mid-1970s, we were on an amazing pastoral team in Southern California. It was one of the most riveting times of our life as we entered into the emerging charismatic movement. The church we were invited to be a part of was the epicenter in its region, and all nine of us pastors were up to our eyeballs, discovering things about God's kingdom that we had never experienced.
Coming out of the northwest, we're even the thinking in the church was much different than what we had come into blew open the doors of revelation and set the course for the next season of our life.
One of the most fascinating things we were introduced to was behind the scenes in the new Christian television station. Our senior pastor was a popular speaker, so we followed him into those places that we could never have gone.
On one such occasion, I met a singer-songwriter that was going to be on the program and listen to his testimony. At this point, he had written over 1000 songs, giving you an idea of why he was so popular in the Christian world.
Something you said that night had impacted me all these years. They ask him if he memorized his songs did he know them by heart. I was surprised to hear that he didn't, and here was the reason.
"if I memorize the song, I would not be able to write new songs because my mind would be filled with the old ones."
Living in the past, where your mind is filled with all the good and bad memories, will stop you from creating new memories that God has planned for you.
This is why I say we live out of the past, not in the past.
Because it is those things that have happened to us in the past that are the foundation we build our life on.
In reality, you are a product of the life you've lived.
One of the most precious things we receive from God our father is that we have been redeemed, cleansed, and forgiven from past deeds so that the good seeds of the past will grow up into a harvest that blesses the father's heart.

Gateway number 23-come in with me.
I have been talking to you for some time now about the Bible being a gateway book, and when we open that book, we can go into the mysteries of God.
Also, there are unique spots throughout the book that seems to be a more excellent Gateway than others. When you meditate upon them, heaven opens up before your spirit and takes you into places you've never been.
The 23rd psalm is one of those vast gateways; when we go in, we become connected to every part of the Bible.
Psalms 23 seems to be a Melchizedek psalm; it has no beginning or end. Every line has technology that takes us to the great truths in the kingdom of God.
In verse one, I have no need. Because God is my shepherd, I shall not want.
In verse two, he makes me lie down in green pastures where I find rest in peace.
In verse three, he restores my soul because he continually refreshes me.
In verse four, even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil for you are with me. Death is nothing more than a shadow; I am immortal.
In verse five, when trouble comes my way, he spreads a table out for me; total supply, from the simple needs to complex ones.
In verse six, I live in two different worlds; because I will dwell with him in his house forever. I have an earthly journey, and at the same time, I have been supernaturally transported to a heavenly realm, and currently, I'm seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus.
All of this starts with union with him. He is my shepherd.
