SHORT OF VISION? CLIMB THE NEAREST TREE
There is a lot of talk about Vision in the church world around the first of the year. What we mean by Vision is the ability to see down the road, as they say, and try to describe our destination. If you're behind the wheel of a speeding automobile, Vision is essential to getting to your intended target. A sudden fog bank will affect your journey because you will have lost your Vision.
If you happen to be journeying through the countryside and want to know what is ahead, you must find some high ground to see better.
We could say the higher you go, the farther you can see.
Take, for instance, the story of Zacchaeus. The scriptures tell us he was a short man trying to see Jesus as he passed. What did he do? He went higher, found the nearest tree, and climbed it. From that extended height, he could see Jesus; but most importantly, Jesus could see him. Something about going higher in the things that God loves, including his presence, gets his attention. You know, at the end of the story with Zacchaeus, he enjoyed lunch with Jesus.
We could say that Vision is a revelation of Jesus Christ and his plans for us in our future. To get this revelation, we must go higher into his presence and listen to his wisdom and direction for our lives.
Unfortunately, we seem content with having someone do it for us, then tell us what they saw and heard. That's what happens on most Sunday morning church services where hopefully, the speaker has gone to the mountain and listened to God. Then like, Moses, who was on the mountain, comes down and tells the congregation what God has in mind.
How unfortunate for the Israelites because they were all invited up the mountain to hear from God. But when they got close to the mountain, they became afraid, and they sent Moses up in their place.
Don't you think it's time for you to find the nearest tree or a mountain( or a prayer closet) and go higher and hear his voice for yourself?

BETWEEN HOPE AND DESPAIR, THERE IS JESUS
As I journeyed through the world I live in today; I heard many voices coming from all sides. Included in the conversations I heard were people that were concerned about the future of their lives and their families. As I listened, I deserved the voices of those who had hope for the future and those who had despair.
Despair is an ugly master that sits on top of your head and shoves your face in the darkness around you. There's plenty of despair going around today concerning the future of our nation and the danger to our health.
Because of this, suicide has become an epidemic among our young people, the very ones that should have hope for their future. Someone or something is poisoning their well.
On the other side, I hear those who have hope; unfortunately, their hope is in man's ability to solve their problems. They seem to be looking toward a person or a group of people to save them from future disasters. False hope is the dirtiest of tricks that you can pull on someone. Because while they feel euphoric, everything will be fine, it's worsening.
There is only one sure thing you can put your hope in, and that is the covenant promise God made to us through Jesus Christ. Hope in Jesus will never be disappointed and always produce what you've hoped for.
Paul didn't refer to it as hope; he called it knowing. He was so assured that the promises of God would not fail him that he declared this statement that lives in our spirits and gives us courage.
"I know in whom I have believed in and persuaded that he can keep that which I have committed under him against that day." ( 2 Tim 1:12)
Folks keep your eyes on Jesus and the power of the resurrection son of God, who is able to do for you beyond your imagination.

GREED MAKES A DANGEROUS MISTRESS
When Jesus said the love of money is the root of all evil, that pretty well describes how much of the world functions. Proverbs 15:27 tells us, "he that is greedy of gain troubles his own house." Indeed, greed makes a dangerous Mistress.
However, the spirit of greed is not limited to money; it can affect many other life functions. Greed can be described as never having enough of whatever you're looking at or desiring. It can affect the way you eat or the way you work. One more pork chop or just a few more hours of work can be orchestrated by greed.
Of course, we know that food is essential; it's necessary for life. And work is a part of who we are, accomplishing those things we love to do.
What does that mean when the scriptures tell us that greed troubles my house?
After years of a father giving his entire time to work, neglecting his children and his marriage, you may hear him say; well, I did it all for you. By now, his wife may be gone, and his children have been neglected to the point of brokenness because he had to work one more hour.
Some people blame the desire for more coming from poverty, never having enough as a child. I'm sure that could have something to do with it, but the enemy of our soul will use anything convenient to manipulate our life.
This is where the healing of the soul through Jesus Christ is critical. Greed cannot be your master if you have confidence in his supply and his plan for your life. Nothing can drive us into despair or ruin when our heart is healed, and our faith is restored because of our knowledge of his love for us.
Greed does make a dangerous Mistress, but Jesus Christ is the master of all things.

HAPPY NEW YOU-GET ACQUAINTED WITH THE NEW YOU
Today on this first day of the new year, I want to talk about the new you. As we celebrate the beginning of a new calendar year, those of us who have been through this several times have set up repetitive habits of celebration. Traditionally we have been taught to make New Year's resolutions, and in most cases, it simply means repeating the same ones you did last year that you failed in again. So we stand at the beginning of a new year and promise not to overeat, cut back on sweets, not watch television as much and read the Bible more.
And again, here we go setting ourselves up for failure one more time.
Why is that?
Because the natural man cannot rule himself or improve his character by outward action, the old man has died with Christ and needs to stay dead.
When we come up with more religious rules to improve our spiritual journey, we are giving medicine to the dead man in an effort to wake him up again.
The scriptures tell us in second Corinthians 5:17, "if any man is in Christ he is a new creature all things have passed away behold all things have become new."
Now notice in that verse the word "if." The word "if" is not a condition but a conclusion. It has nothing to do with what I do but everything with what Christ did on the cross and at the resurrection.
Because of his actions, all men were made new.
First Corinthians 1:30 "by God's doing we are in Christ." m/b
What does this mean to us today as we enter this new year?
It reminds us that we are not on a revolving calendar in our spiritual walk with God. He has made me new, and I stay new because of his grace. I do not come and go out of the kingdom of God like the seasons of the year change the leaves on the tree. I am in Christ, and I stay in Christ because his idea and actions made it possible.
If you can grab this today, my friend, you'll get off the merry-go-round of spiritual and emotional failure and know that you are in Christ permanently.

ARE YOU LIVING ON HOLY GROUND?
Have you ever wondered why they call Israel the holy lands? Let's take a short journey through the history of the children of Israel and God's purpose for his creation.
Psalms 82 must be understood before we understand genesis 1:26. Because psalms 82 is one of the verses that describe the sons of God that were created before the world was created. These sons are in the divine class, which we call lesser gods. Their role in the spiritual world is to do the will of Jehovah, and they have been created with free will.
So when we come to Genesis 1:26, the group that God is speaking to are his heavenly sons, and he says," let us make man in our image." Therefore we have been created in the natural world with the same purpose that the sons of God in the spiritual world were created for; to do the will of Jehovah. And we also have been made with self-will.
Now, look at Genesis 6:1 to see the rebellion of a group of those lesser gods, God's spiritual sons, when they came to Earth and took the daughters of men for wives.
Because of that and the results that followed, Noah built an ark, and eight souls were saved; when the flood covered the Earth. God gave Noah and his children the same command he gave Adam. They should reproduce Eden and God's rule on the Earth. They were to fill the Earth with people of the same convictions that they had to love God Jehovah with all their heart.
But again, God's self-willed sons on Earth disobeyed and built one city called Babel.
This is when God stepped down to look to see what was happening and made the judgment to disown all the nations of the Earth. And he scatters them.
God decided to try it one more time with Abraham and chose his descendants to be his heirs of the promise. Their purpose was to do precisely the same thing that Adam and Noah were commanded to do. Reproduce after your kind and bring Eden back to Earth again.
Canaan land became the promised land which turned into the holy land. And as long as the Israelites honored and worshiped Jehovah as the only true God, the ground they lived on was holy. Because the ground was dedicated to the only true God, it was also protected by that same heavenly father.
Out of this promise, Psalms 91 was pinned." No evil shall befall you, or any plague will come near your dwelling.
Skip forward to the New Testament revelation, where Paul tells us that we are temples of the living God. Why? Because God has declared us holy ground and has moved his residence within us.
My friends, you're not only living on the holy ground; you are the very ground God walks on. He has declared you Holy, righteous, and worthy to dwell in.

THE VOICES THAT ARE NEVER HEARD
On one of our many journeys as a family, dad ended up preaching in Tonawanda, New York, close to Niagara Falls. So, of course, we couldn't miss the opportunity to visit that historic site. At one point, we found ourselves going down a tunnel that took us under the falls; what I experienced there as a teenager has stayed with me my entire life.
The roar of the falls filled the decimal range in our hearing, so there was no more room for the sound to enter our ears. Even if we screamed very loud into each other's ears, no understandable sound was registered. The sound coming off the following water completely saturated our ability. Do you hear anything else?
Our greatest gift from heaven is the voice that our heavenly father has given us and the free will to choose our own words. God has chosen us as independent players in his great army of created sons and daughters on earth.
The power of our voice and the words we choose to use have the potential to shape the very kingdom of God that we've been called into. The words we speak are alive and have the potential to create life or destroy it.
Scriptures tell us that death and life are found in the power of the tongue.
(Pro 18:21) and they that love it, she'll eat the fruit thereof.
Two things will hinder our voice and cause us to lose our position as creators of life in this great kingdom of God.
The first one is possibly the most crippling of all; the lack of use. Many believers have not been taught that their voice was meant to be used to change the world around them. Because of that lack of understanding, a considerable part of the army of God is mute.
The second thing that hinders our voices is the overabundance of sound around us that fills the atmosphere. Was so much white noise that we couldn't hear ourselves speak. Why even try? We think as we become discouraged and eventually quit speaking.
Today I call for the voice of the body of Christ to speak out loud and bold. In your mouth is the key to the salvation of the world. The apostle Paul declared that it was in the mouth of those that hurt him that it made the difference in the outcome of their life.
Use the greatest gift God has given you, the power of speech, to declare your and your generation's freedom.

THE NUMBER ONE REASON THAT PEOPLE FAIL-THEY DON'T LISTEN
Jesus said, "he that has an ear, let him hear." Whenever He made that statement, it was a heads up that something important was ready to be said. I've heard some preachers say, "do you have your catcher on." Give the audience time to prepare to listen; something good is coming.
One of the first things to learn as a successful pastor, counselor, or parent is to listen to those sharing their life with you. When someone begins to tell you about their complicated life problems, it's pretty easy to give quick answers.
You often think, well, I've heard this before, so to save time for everyone, do this, and you'll be better. However, as you listen and let them talk, most often, they will answer their problems. The answer will come if you give it time. It's not unusual in the people ministry that God has given me, as I listen, to do just that.
"Are you listening to yourself?" I often say, "That was a confession of your spirit speaking the answer."
However, things like that don't happen if you don't listen long enough because you will miss the big keys that make the difference.
After all, our loving heavenly father is the best listener of them all. We take up much prayer time by unloading our hearts to him. We confess things that have been buried deep within our souls. We cry over the grief that has not been expressed to anyone but him. We even complain at times about the slow service that Heaven seems to have, wondering where our packages are.
After it's all over and we feel better; now he finally speaks. Because he has allowed us to speak and he took the time to listen, we now have room to receive the words he gives us for our deliverance and healing.
So talk to the father tonight before you pull the covers over you heading for dreamland. Take time to express your heart. He will listen. When you're through, then you listen. That's where the fun begins.

PLAYING IT SAFE NEVER WON THE PRIZE
Satchel Paige, the first black American to break into National baseball and set many records, said this. "you will never be able to sneak to 2nd base if you don't let go of first base."
Just think for a moment how that simple statement fits just about everything you are challenged to do in life's journey. After all, the game of baseball does seem to illustrate life.
In life, we have a team called family and friends. In that close relation of the team spirit, we learn the game by depending on each other's skills to take the trophy home.
Coaches are given to us along the way to share their guidance and wisdom with us as a team. Some of them we call mothers or fathers; others could be pastors and teachers, but they all do one thing; transfer wisdom to us.
At some point in this game of life, we take our turn at the bat. This is the testing point of who we are; a risk taker or a safety player. Will we swing for the fence or try to make it to the first base and be safe?
They tell me the great Babe Ruth, who carried the home run records for many years, struck out more than he made home runs. He always swung for the fence because, in his mind, every time he was at bat, it was going to be another home run. The crowd loved "the babe" because, home run or strike out; he always was the same; he bowed to the crowd and showed them his love for the game.
You and I are in another type of game, an eternal one. We're on a team, the body of Christ. We have a coach, the Holy Ghost. We have assistant coaches all around us, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, and evangelists.
All of our coaches say the same thing. Take the risk and swing for the fence.

I HEAR THE SOUND OF HARVEST COMBINES
The farmer's work is never done, or so it goes. The farmer's work continues throughout the year from dawn till dusk in sunshine or snow. The one thing that encourages the farmer and his family to press forward is the promise of harvest time. The joy of harvest time makes it all worthwhile.
A surprising statistic from the state of Washington and Oregon is that we have some of the most extensive wheat fields in the nation. There is nothing more spectacular in the summertime than to see the harvesters coming in to reap those great fields of golden grain.
Because the fields are so gigantic and the time is so short for harvest because of the weather, a group of 10 or 12 combines will come in and go to work on one field. It's like watching a giant ballet perform as they do their magic harvesting food for a nation.
I woke up and heard the sound of a group of harvest combines coming toward me. The spirit told me the harvest is at hand, and the combines are coming.
For those who know the Scriptures, remember that Jesus said something like that when he said the fields are ripe unto harvest, but the laborers are a few, pray that harvesters will come into the field.
I believe the spirit is speaking to the church a prophetic word concerning the increase of harvest hands and combines that cover the field working together to bring in God's treasures.
It is always God's time for harvest, and he is not waiting for some future date to win the lost and turn the children back to their fathers. That is always in his heart.
The scriptures tell us, "today is the day of salvation."
David heard the sound of the army of the lord on the top of the mulberry trees. I am hearing the sound of an army of combines coming to the nations of the world and bringing in the greatest harvest we have ever known. Today is the day it's beginning. HARVEST HANDS NEEDED.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, AND WELCOME TO A NEW YEAR
As we gather around our family Christmas tree and sing the familiar songs of this wonderful season, let us remember who it is all about. Much of the world around us has been lost in the commercial celebration of Christmas and has forgotten the reason for the season.
Remembering today that Jesus did not come to give us better ideas, and he did not come as a teacher; he came as a savior. The world did not need knowledge or more inventions; it needed to be rescued by a savior that would change history forever.
The Christmas season is focused on the birth of Jesus, celebrating the prophecies that had come to pass and the miracle of his virgin birth. For those who know him as Savior, don't stop at the manger scene and the shepherds watching their flocks at night. As marvelous as that was, the big show happened on the cross, and the resurrection and the ascension of Jesus to the father.
So we say merry Christmas and enjoy the season with all the enthusiasm and fun we love. We exchange gifts, remembering the joy of giving, eating together, laughing together, and thanking God for the families that he has given us.
While at the same time, we hear the background, the old testament prophets with over 300 prophetic declarations describing the coming of this baby that we celebrate today.
For unto us a Child is born unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder. His name shall be called wonderful counselor, mighty God the everlasting father Prince of peace of the increase of his government and peace there should be no end. Isaiah 9:6
