YOU CAN NOT BE LOST UNLESS YOU BELONG

 

In the book of Luke, the 15th chapter, we find the story of three things that were lost and found again. The first was a sheep, and the second was a coin. And the third one was a lost son that we referred to as the prodigal son.

Each of these represents something of value and something that was treasured.

In the illustration of the lost sheep, the shepherd values each sheep equally. If you don't understand the shepherd's heart, you may say I've still got 99 sheep, so I'm not going to make an effort to go after just one lone sheep. 

However, the heart of a shepherd has a totally different feeling toward that sheep because it's his and valuable. So he searches until he finds it.

The second illustration finds a valuable coin lost in the house.

Notice it's lost in the house, so the lady of the house sets everything aside, searching everywhere until she finds it. Someone says I have other coins, and I'll find that other someday; after all, it's in the house. But the owner of this coin valued that so much that she searched until she found it.

Remember now Jesus is telling these stories about God and you and me.

We are the lost sheep, and we are the last coin, and we are the prodigal son.

Also, remember that we belong to him; he owns us; we are not our own; we are bought with a price. Jesus bailed us out of the devil's pawnshop and returned us to the father's house. 

That's precisely what happened when he rose from the dead and took his blood to the father for approval. And God said that's enough.

I love the prodigal son story because everyone can relate to that in some way. Jesus said we, like sheep, have gone astray; every one of us has wandered off somehow. The story is not only about the sun; it's also about the father who loves the sun so much that he waits at the gate day after day for him to come home.

If this prodigal son's father was anything like my heavenly father, he sent a servant to keep an eye on that boy and knew where he was day and night.

That's precisely what your heavenly father has done; he sent his angels to keep charging you and bring you back to your full position as a son and a daughter of the heavenly family.
